Feast day: June 2
St. Erasmus (Elmo)
A bishop martyred under Diocletian who became one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and the beloved patron of sailors, invoked in the terrors of storms at sea.
The blue electrical glow seen on ships' masts in a storm — 'St. Elmo's fire' — was taken by sailors as a sign of his protection and named for him.
