Feast day: May 1

St. Joseph the Worker

St. Joseph the Worker

Feast · 1st century

Patron of Workers, laborers, employment

Pius XII established this feast in 1955 to honor the dignity of human labor through the carpenter who taught the Son of God a trade.

The feast was deliberately placed on May 1 — a Christian answer to May Day, claiming work itself for God.
